A vocologist is someone who studies the voice—how it functions, how to improve it, and how to keep it healthy. Marjorie is a certified vocologist who has studied evidence-based vocal science focused on helping the voice work efficiently and effectively.
Marjorie applies these scientific principles to both singing and speaking, a process known as vocal habilitation. Vocal habilitation includes:
- Maintaining vocal health
- Building and enhancing vocal skills
- Promoting best practices for performers
At the heart of vocal habilitation is one central theme: taking care of the voice. Marjorie emphasizes good vocal hygiene
—daily habits that help keep the vocal folds strong, flexible, and healthy, so you can consistently perform at your best. Marjorie earned a graduate-level certificate in Vocology from Lamar University with a 4.0 GPA. Her coursework included:
- Anatomy & Physiology
- Speech & Voice Science
- Acoustics
- Instrumental Analysis
- Voice Pedagogy
She is currently the only private voice teacher in the state of Alabama who is a Certified Vocologist. As part of her services, Marjorie may accompany students (and a parent) to ENT doctors or allergists. This allows her to share specific vocal concerns directly with medical professionals, providing accurate context and easing the burden on families. If she can’t attend, Marjorie prepares a detailed report and, with written consent, can consult directly with the physician before or after the appointment.
Marjorie also collaborates with Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) who specialize in voice therapy. Many vocal issues—especially those caused by misuse, fatigue, or injury—can significantly improve with targeted therapy and consistent at-home exercises.
